For the Great Big Green Week, the Co-op is coming to ECO HUB at Glamis Hall in Wellingborough to talk to members, customers and the community about what does sustainability mean to them and asking if there are any local issues that the community can come together and make a difference.
We recognise the importance of championing a better way of doing business and doing the right thing by both people and the planet. To do this, we take a collaborative approach with our customers, members, suppliers and partners. In July, we launched our soft plastic recycling scheme, where you can now bring items like crisp packets & bread bags and place them in our recycling units in a location near you. Here’s what our Member Pioneer Co-ordinator said:
We’ve removed over 331 tonnes of plastic from our fresh fruit and vegetable packaging over the last 2 years. We need your help to do even more.

Right now you can recycle your soft plastics at over 2,200 Co-op stores across the country, including in Wellingborough at Co-op Olympic Way and at Co-op Redhill on Northen Way.
We’ve always led the way on the food issues that matter the most to our customers and members such as being the first UK supermarket to sell Fairtrade products. Wellingborough Eco Group will also have their popular Happy Café, Tuesday Tidy Ups, Swap Shop and Food Sharers on too, come to ECO HUB two hours early for their free food reuse Happy Café 10am-2pm, that has Co-op sandwiches, hot food, plus tea and coffee in the marquee with Sustainability LIVE.
Join us 12-6 for Wellingborough Swap Shop where they will have rails of clothes for you plus lots of seeds, books, DVDs, toys (lots of teddies) and household items. Everything is available for swaps or a small donation to the group. Food Sharers will have lots of fresh food from Redeem Funds, loads of sandwiches from Co-op, and much more. Tuesday Tidy Ups is 12-6 with Wellie Wombles. Come to borrow our litter pickers and hoops for a tidy up, bags are free!
